You can help give Richmond Hill a spring cleaning during Clean Up, Green Up Weeks!
From April 19 to May 3, residents, businesses, community groups and schools are encouraged to come together to help pick up litter that has accumulated over the winter months in parks, trails, on boulevards and in open spaces.
The City will provide registered participants with gloves, garbage and recycling bags, and arrange for collection of the filled bags.
Registration is now closed. Thank you in advance to all participants!
The map below shows where groups have registered to clean up.
I’m looking for a group to join, what should I do? |
Please email us at wastemgmt@richmondhill.ca, and we will provide you the contact details of a public group that you can join. Alternatively, you are welcome to sign up as an individual or create your own group by completing the registration form above. |
How many pairs of gloves will my group receive? |
The City will provide one pair of medium-sized nitrile gloves per participant. We have a limited supply of large (L) and extra-large (XL) gloves. Please email us at wastemgmt@richmondhill.ca to request these sizes once you have completed the registration form. |
I requested gloves and bags on the registration form. How do I get these supplies? |
We will deliver the supplies to you between April 15 and 19. Alternatively, you can choose to pick up your supplies at the Operations Centre at 1200 Elgin Mills Rd E by emailing us at wastemgmt@richmondhill.ca. The Operations Centre is open Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Please ensure that your supplies are picked up between April 15 and 19. |
I don't need gloves or bags. Do I still need to register? |
We ask that everyone interested in participating in a litter clean up event between April 19 and May 3 register online. This will allow us to coordinate collection of the filled bags and keep track of how many groups are participating and what areas are going to be cleaned. |
Where should I clean up? |
Choose a greenspace in need of a cleaning in your neighbourhood such as a park, trail, boulevard or other public space. For litter ‘hotspot’ suggestions, please email us at wastemgmt@richmondhill.ca. |
What do I do with the garbage I have collected? |
City of Richmond Hill staff can pick up your bags. If you require collection of the filled bags, please specify on the registration form the location where you will leave your bags. To ensure prompt pickup, please email wastemgmt@richmondhill.ca to confirm the location of your bags once you have completed your cleanup. |
What if we encounter something we are not comfortable handling? |
Do not pick up any litter that you do not feel comfortable handling. If you find hazardous waste (e.g. large bulky items, sharp objects, needles, etc.) on public property during your clean up event, please report it to Access Richmond Hill at 905-771-8800. |
What if I decide to change my cleanup event/date? |
If you need to make any changes to your registration (e.g. reschedule your cleanup date, choose a new cleanup location etc.) please email us at wastemgmt@richmondhill.ca as soon as possible so that we can try to accommodate your request. |
Will my participation count towards my high school volunteer hours? |
Clean Up, Green Up events are not supervised by City of Richmond Hill staff. As a result, City staff will not be able to sign off on volunteer hours. However, a supervising adult may sign off on the community involvement activities form and provide their contact information. For more information or if you have any questions, please contact your school’s guidance counsellor directly. |
