Richmond Hill Blooms is a program designed to encourage residents to play a role in beautifying our community by creating attractive, colourful and well-maintained front gardens.
Residents are invited to nominate their favourite Richmond Hill front gardens for recognition. You can nominate your friends, family, neighbours or even your own front garden.
Everyone is welcome and encouraged to participate. Garden designs can be anything from a lush, green oasis to a vivid array of colours and scents to a pollinator’s paradise. All nominated properties will receive a recognition sign to proudly display in the front garden.
Nominations are now closed. Thanks to everyone who participated.
Please note that the judging portion of the front garden recognition program has been discontinued. Instead, the program is going back to its roots and will focus on encouraging a higher level of participation across the community.
Hosted by the Richmond Hill Garden and Horticultural Society (RHGHS), the theme for this year's Open Gates Garden Tour is 'Artful Gardens'. The event will take place on Sunday, July 7 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and features eight unique and 'artful' gardens in the Richmond Hill area.
You'll see a variety of garden types, including cottage-style, naturalized, meadow, formal, vegetable, rain and even a Monarch butterflyway station! The garden owners are all keen gardeners, who are actively involved in maintaining their own properties. Many grow their own annuals from seed. Each of the gardens contain statuary and artwork that add interest, charm and even humour as you visit the properties. Five of the gardens have water features as well, some created by the owners themselves. Three guest artists will have their work available for purchase at some of the locations.
For more information or to purchase tickets, visit the RHGHS website.
Richmond Hill Blooms is a partnership between the City of Richmond Hill and the Richmond Hill Garden and Horticultural Society. Visit richmondhillgardensociety.org to learn more about the RHGHS and how you can become a member.
